Have fun getting into nature with Whenua Iti Outdoors!
This programme is designed to kick-start kōhine (young teenage women) on an active journey to re-connect with nature, in nature, alongside their peers. The programme will provide the opportunity to build confidence and motivation for getting outside and being active – as a way to have fun and stay healthy in mind, body & spirit.
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW:
The course uses experiential learning activities as a platform to engage kōhine (young women) in active skills through a series of fun, yet challenging, outdoor recreation activities. Students will gain confidence and self-belief by overcoming different challenges while having fun in the outdoors.
Activities on this programme could include abseiling, rock climbing, caving, stand up paddleboarding, camping, tramping, adventure-based learning games, orienteering and cooking outside. The mix of activities is designed for students to give new things a go in a safe and supportive environment.
STUDENT SELECTION CRITERIA
• Year 9 – 10 students based in the Nelson/Tasman/Golden Bay region
• Students who may need a boost in confidence or motivation to be active
• Students who aren’t currently involved in outdoor recreation
