Youth Outdoor Film Competition
The Youth Outdoor Film Competition is all about getting outdoors, having fun, and sharing your journey. Whether you’re hiking, biking, kayaking, or just exploring your favourite local spot, we want to see it through your eyes.
The goal is to inspire others to get outside, connect with nature, and see the world through your lens.

Who Can Enter
Anyone under 24 years old living in Aotearoa, NZ. Films can be made solo or as a group.
Categories
- Youth Filmmaker: You plan, film, and edit your own masterpiece.
- Primary Journey: For youth under 12 - It's fine to get help editing to bring your story to life, focus on the adventure.
- Intermediate Journey: For youth 12-15 - It's fine to get help editing to bring your story to life, focus on the adventure.
- Senior Journey: For youth 16+ - It's fine to get help editing to bring your story to life, focus on the adventure.
Technical Specs
- Length: 2–10 minutes.
- Minimum resolution: 1920 x 1080 px (HD)
- Maximum resolution: 3840 x 2160 px (4K)
- File format: MP4 or MOV
- Orientation: Landscape
- Audience rating: PG
How to submit your film
- Option 1: Upload your film to your own online storage – eg, Google Drive – and share a download link. The festival team will download your film and provide it to the judges.
- Option 2: Upload your film to YouTube and provide a view link. *Please note: if your film is selected you will need to provide a separate download link so your film can be included in the final film that’s played in the cinema. If we can’t download your film on time we can’t include it.
- Option 3: Save your film to a USB drive and post to: Youth Outdoor Film Festival Team, c/o Whenua Iti Outdoors, 375 Main Rd Lower Moutere, RD2, Upper Moutere 7175
