This summer, we’re inviting YOU to get outside, explore the wild, and share your outdoor adventure! Whether it’s climbing a mountain, biking through the bush, or exploring along the coast, it’s your chance to show the world your journey.
About the Competition
What’s this all about?
The Youth Outdoor Short Film Competition is all about getting outdoors, having fun, and sharing your journey. Whether you’re hiking, biking, kayaking, or just exploring your favorite local spot, we want to see it through your eyes.
Who can enter?
- Anyone under 24 years old living in Aotearoa, NZ.
- Films can be made solo or as a group (max 4 people per group).
What’s the goal?
To inspire others to get outside, connect with nature, and see the world through your lens.
Categories
Choose the category that fits you best:
- Youth Filmmaker: You plan, film, and edit your own masterpiece.
- Primary Journey: For youth under 12 -focus on the adventure— it's fine to get help editing to bring your story to life.
- Intermediate Journey: For youth 12-15 -focus on the adventure— it's fine to get help editing to bring your story to life.
- Senior Journey: For youth 16+ -focus on the adventure—it's fine to get help editing to bring your story to life.

How to Enter
1. Plan Your Adventure
Get outdoors this summer—head to the mountains, beaches, forests, or rivers.
2. Record Your Journey
Capture the action with your camera or phone. Don’t worry—it doesn’t need to be fancy!
3. Edit Your Film
- DIY? Go for the Youth Filmmaker category.
- Need help? Get support and enter your age-group Journey Category.
4. Submit Your Entry
- Length: 2–10 minutes.
- Format: 1920*1080 HD format, high-quality MP4, MOV, or AVI (suitable for cinema screening) and ideally you should shoot/save/export the film at 24 (or 25) frames per second for the best quality!
- Upload: Use our easy entry form to send us your film link (YouTube, Vimeo, or file sharing).

Rules Made Simple
- The Adventure: Your outdoor journey must take place during the 2024/25 NZ summer.
- Your Team: Entrants must be under 24 years old.
- Original Content: The film must feature your own footage (editing help is okay).
- Stay Safe: Follow outdoor safety guidelines and respect the environment.

Need ideas? Here’s where to start:

- Paddleboard or kayak on your nearest lake, inlet or river.
- Bike a new trail with your mates.
- Camp out and capture the night sky.
- Try something new! This could be a new activity or exploring a new location.
