Whenua Iti Outdoors Base
Whenua Iti Outdoors is located near Lower Moutere in the Tasman District on the South Island of New Zealand, five kilometres from the township of Motueka, and a 40 minute drive from Nelson City. Whenua Iti is central to three national parks – Kahurangi, Nelson Lakes and Abel Tasman, and close to several conservation areas including the Mt Richmond Forest Park.
Whenua Iti Outdoors is set on 7.5 hectares of park-like grounds, with mature native borders and flat sweeping lawns. On site, you'll find our offices and the all the amenities you need to enjoy your time with us including gear sheds, a meeting hall and kitchen and overnight facilities. We also have a 13 metre high abseiling tower, a high and low ropes course, an orienteering course, an obstacle course to challenge you and large lawns for games and camping.
On and off site
The location of the majority of programmes is a mix of onsite and offsite. Multiday programmes often start and finish at the Whenua Iti Outdoors base. Often groups will overnight onsite, or day programmes will utilise the tower and ropes courses.
Popular Venue
The site is also available for private or community hire. It is a popular wedding venue.
Facilities Available
The Hall
Used as a classroom or meeting room, the hall is a lovely wooden building with adjoining kitchen which opens onto a covered verandah and the grounds.
The Kitchen & Ablutions
Adjoining the hall, the Kitchen has ample workspace, ovens, a fridge and two sinks. There are four toilets and two showers available.
The Outdoor Barbeque Area
A specific barbeque area and fire pit sit not far from the hall. Popular for cooking and as an outdoor meeting point.
Meeting Rooms
The Hall is available for large groups of up to 50 people. There is also a smaller Board Room for up to 12 people.
Venue Hire
What is for hire
The Grounds including the Hall, Kitchen, Ablutions and Meeting room are available for hire. For larger groups, extra equipment such as refridgerated trailers, portaloos or portashowers can be brought onsite.
Overnight use is welcome, we can make recommendations on where to get equipment such as tents.
