The Whenua Iti Outdoors' Name
Whenua Iti’s name was given to the founding members of the trust in 1986 by local kaumatua Uncle Tom Bailey. The founder of Whenua Iti, Hazel Nash, gifted what she called ‘her little piece of land’ to the Trust and from this Uncle Tom chose the name Whenua Iti. The direct Maori translation of Whenua Iti is ‘little piece of land’. In Maori, the word Whenua also means placenta, drawing a deeper connection into the name Whenua Iti, as a small place from which great things can grow.

Evaluation and Monitoring
Social Impact Report 2016/2017
The outcomes we achieve at Whenua Iti Outdoors are often profound and life changing. They are often also hard to quantify.
In order to ensure that we are meeting our mandate and offering quality programmes to our many participants, we have developed an evaluation framework to determine and define our impact.
The Social Impact Report 2016/2017 is a summary of our work, the gaps, the solutions we provide, the methods we use and the extent to which we achieve our goals.
