Activities
The range of activities available at Whenua Iti Outdoors is wide ranging, taking in all the natural resources around us. Each activity has been chosen for its challenge, its potential for learning and most importantly because its fun!

Abseiling
A pre-cursor to rock-climbing; abseiling is perceived as challenging for many people, but is a low impact activity and available to a wide range of ages, both onsite and offsite.



Camping
Overnight in a tent, cook on a campfire, sleep in the outdoors. Camping is great fun for all ages. Camp here at Whenua Iti Outdoors or offsite site at locations such as the Abel Tasman National Park.



Caving
Enter an new underground world with caving on and under the Takaka Hill. Experience the challenge of true darkness, learn how to squeeze and climb. Explore caves not open to the general public. Suitable for a range of ages with all equipment provided.



Coasteering
Rock scrambling, wading, exploring rock pools along the coastline. Coasteering takes advantage of the surrounding bays and beaches for a high intensity group activity.



Flying Kiore
A great confidence building, team building activity, where communication, team strength and coordination comes into play. A single team member is hoisted into the air by the team, for a safe and rewarding thrill. Most suited to younger children.



High Ropes
At 8 metres our high ropes course is an excellent way to really achieve. One of our safest most regulated activies, the challenge of stepping out onto a small platform high above the ground is enough to make the toughest participants pause. A range of courses and levels of challenge make this activity suitable for all ages. Located onsite at Whenua Iti Outdoors.



Kayaking
An alternative way to see the coast is to explore by kayak. Learn essential seafaring skills while negotating waves. Suitable for Year 9 and above students. We provide the the boats and safety equipment all you have to bring is a great attitude. Located in the Abel Tasman and Nelson Lakes national parks.



Low Ropes
Its harder than it looks, the low ropes are an exercise in balance, coordination and teamwork. A fun low impact activity that challenges even the most confident. Located at Whenua Iti Outdoors and suitable for all ages.



Mau Rakau & Haka
Distinct to our Maori culture, develop basic mau rakau and haka skills understanding the meaning, history and purpose. Delivered in an accessible friendly learning environment.



Mountain Biking
If you can ride a bike then you are up for the challenge of mountain biking. Explore our region off road on specialised tracks, learn techniques for riding and challenge yourself. Suitable for Year 9 and above. All bikes and safety equipment provided.



Orienteering
A group challenge that can be tailored to suit age and abilities. Participants are required to navigate a course using a map and compass. Courses are onsite and a wide range of offsite locations. It can be both a group and individual activity.



Rock Climbing
Rock climbing is a personal challege, the only person to beat is yourself. Learn the techniques to climb, hold and safely support your friends. We rock climb in a range of locations and it is suitable for all ages.



Tramping
Tramping is a fun way to really get into the outdoors. Take control of your own challenge by walking and carrying your own gear. Tramping forms the basis of the overnight experience. Locations include any of the three national parks and forest parks. It is suitable for all ages and most fitness levels.



Trapeze
The Trapeze is a challenging activity designed to test personal ability. Participants jump at height onto a trapeze while safely harnessed and belayed. Trust and encouragement are important team components. Conducted onsite at Whenua Iti Outdoors and suitable for most clients.



Waka Ama
Paddling together is an effective way to encourage team work and support. Waka sizes vary and can cater to a range of group sizes. Ideal of older youth and adults, or mixed ages.
